Put video on your PSP [Video Tool]

Read Rob Dubbin's article, Put video on your PSP - Insider Secrets - CNET reviews.

I tried this last night using Videora Labs' PSP Video 9.0. Amazingly, it worked great!

I am running into a slight audio/video syncing issue (off by a second or so), but all-in-all it passed my test of being easy-to-do with a very short learning curve--I got the hang of it within 30 minutes.

Keep in mind that you'll need to purchase a larger memory stick to transfer video to your PSP--running around $70 and up. But, the bottomline--The NetSavvy Guy says this works like magic! Give it a try...

Read Blog basics: Learn how to keep an online journal [Blog Tool]

Read Mara Gulens' article, Blog basics: Learn how to keep an online journal: Start your own Web blog and share your life online.

According to Merriam Webster OnLine, the number one word its readers sought to define in 2004 was one we've likely all heard but are just beginning to understand: "blog."

The online dictionary site defines a blog as a Web site that contains a personal journal with reflections, comments, and often, hyperlinks provided by the writer. Short for Web log, a blog lets you keep information that you want to share with others—words, pictures, and even music—in one easy-to-locate online space, thus eliminating the need to send multiple e-mails to share your world.

Start an e-mail network to help family and friends [e-mail Tool)

Will an e-mail message ever feel quite as intimate as a hand-penned letter? You might not think so, but it could be the thread that holds friends and families together. And those e-mails can even transform the cold world of Internet cables and keyboards into a true global village.

Read Stephanie McGrath's article, "Start an e-mail network to help family and friends." You may get inspired. ;-)

Turn piles of photos into digital memories [Photo Tool]

According to John Roach, "Scanners can help organize your life. If shoeboxes crammed with forgotten images clutter your basement, a photo scanner may be the answer to your spring cleaning blues."

"Once images are digitized, a trip down memory lane only requires a few mouse clicks."

I recently scanned lots of old B&W pictures that my dad gave me and turned them into a magnificent hardbound tabletop book--easily one of the nicest gifts I've ever put together. I think it turned out to be a very memorable Father's Day gift. ;-)

Register a Domain Name with Yahoo! Small Business [Blog Tool]

I've registered three domain names with Yahoo! Small Business in the last year!

Domain Name Registration from Yahoo! Small Business

You can literally register just about any cool site name, then have it "redirect" to your blog address that you set up using Blogger.com (see earlier posting). Currently, you can register a domain name for $9.95 a year (cheaper if you sign up for multiple years). Sometimes, Yahoo! offers a $2.95 special, but ONLY for new customers (blah, I HATE that!).

I remember the days when setting up a website presence took days, weeks, maybe even months! With Yahoo! Domain Name Registration combined with Blogger.com, I've created fully-functioning websites in a hour or so during my weekend (including THIS website!!!). Set up your "home" on the Internet today.

Conduct free conference calls with FreeConference.com [Phone Tool]

Now THIS free service is the bomb!

I use FreeConference.com to set up distance learning teleclasses or focus group conference calls. There are different "paid" levels of service to choose from, but honestly I find the freebie version works just fine.

Read "Publishing a Blog with Blogger" by Elizabeth Castro [Blog Tool]

Having a blog today is a must if you really want to develop a personal presence on the Internet. Once I discovered Google's Blogger, I've never looked back. This website is powered by Blogger...what an elegant, surprisingly simple, user-friendly application.

About 10 years ago, I blogged constantly and didn't even know it...I'd spend literally hours creating family updates, journal entries, and photo postings using Adobe Pagemill (Does this software even exist anymore?). Now, with "free" programs like Blogger, I'm updating my websites so effortlessly that I can spend more time "thinking and writing" versus "coding and hacking."

I highly recommend Blogger.com if you want to get started blogging today. And, if you're going to use Blogger, you MUST get Elizabeth Castro's book, "Publishing a Blog with Blogger." Ms. Castro walks you through the process and points out hidden features that might take you years to discover (if ever!). It's published by one of my all-time favorite book publishers, Peachpit Press.

With Blogger and Ms. Castro's concise, easy-to-follow direction, you will have your own blog up-and-running in less than an hour--promise!

Create stunning color highlights in B&W photo using Picasa [Photo Tool]

Alexandra, my 13-year-old daughter, taught me this nifty trick...

Using Google's "Picasa," I was able to place spot color on a black and white picture in seconds. Most people use something like Adobe Photoshop to select an area with a "lasso" tool, then invert the rest of the picture into b&w.

With Picasa, you just move an adjustable "wand" tool over the area you wish to leave "in color." Viola, instant color highlight. Now, I could send this image to Walmart's Online Photo Center and have wallet-sized pictures ready for pick-up in an hour. Very cool!

The NetSavvy Guy is online!

Welcome to The NetSavvy Guy website!

I have lots of exciting things to share with you that I think will make you a serious presence on the Internet. I've been a very avid user of everything "cyber" for years and years--not as a programmer, not as a techie, not as a hacker. Everything I've learned has been from the eager and interested perspective of a real, living "end-user."

What's the difference?

My DNA make-up is simply this--I can't help but find "practical" and "innovative" ways to use tools and technology to make my life easier. I've been using e-mail for years, way before many discovered its terrific speed and efficacy in communication. But, like many others, I've also found e-mail to have some "bad habits" and "pitfalls" built into them, as well. I had to learn the hard way sometimes that this technology doesn't necessarily erase the bottomline of bad communication and in some cases creates totally new problems that didn't exist 10 years ago.

My dad told me over breakfast one day that I should consider writing a book about technology from an everyday end-user's point of view--I decided to start with a blog ;-)

I'm always on the lookout for new services and software applications that are clever, innovative, functional, and easy-to-use...I usually don't bother with complicated applications because they were obviously NOT designed with the end-user in mind...I'll pass!

Anyway, welcome to The NetSavvy Guy website...let's explore together!
